Volunteering in Beijing

Does anybody know of any community service volunteering in Beijing? Something like volunteering in orphanages or looking after disabled children. I'd be really happy to get just any ideas from you guys. Thank you in advance.

i know one - it is around 十里河, which was set up in 2003, they help chinese orphans born with mild to serious physical handicaps and who require surgery or medical attention, i'd been there to see the kids, they're mostly under 2 years old.

YYZ, thank you very much for your post. However I don't have any medical education or any experience of the kind. What I could do is help with cooking, activities, but not medical attention I'm afraid. Well, thank you anyway.

but yes, they welcome any types of contributions - look after the children, or donate daily necessities for the children such as diapers and baby formulae....
i am thinking of giving some help too

I'd really like to get involved too, but I'm still very much a beginner with my mandarin-learning, would that be a problem?

elesimp, i don't think that would be a problem. I tought english at a summer camp in shandong without speaking any chinese. and i really don't think you'd need to speak good chinese to volunteer in an orphanage.

sure! and i just met the owner last week and knew that they had open another new one recently, but i forgot where it is, should be far from the central. i'm planning to go to the old one this weekend and try to get more infomation, will let you know later.
