MAO Livehouse 光芒

Primed and ready to take the crown as the capital’s premier music venue, the slyly iconic logo (featuring China's most famous hairline), and the no-nonsense iron-riveted façade are an indicator of MAO’s approach. The stage is sectioned off from the bar and lounge while the large concert floor (a-la gutted movie theater) slants towards the stage, offering the choice between the pit and a high view.

Good but...

Very good place for live music, but only one very very bad point that annoys me every time I go : you cannot check your jacket, they have no storage service. Which is kind of embarassing when it's -10 degrees outside, and 35 degress inside, and you have to attend a punk concert with a polar parka. Smile

#1 Rock and Punk venue in Beijing

This place is a really good starting point for seeing Punk and Rock in Beijing. The pit is tiered so if you don't want to get bumped into you don't have to and the pit space is more than enough. The concert area is a separate room from the lounge and tables so if you want to have a conversation it is entirely possible.
As always, you pay for quality. (usually) 50 kuai tickets and the cheapest beer starting at 20 might drain your wallet but the music is great, the atmosphere is great, and the people are great so you are getting what you're paying for.
